I'm fundraising for an important cause!

I am riding in Athina’s Ride to help make a difference in her life and others who struggle with Desmoid Tumours. Anyone who has met Athina knows she is a wonderfully vibrant person, a phenomenal athlete and her smile and laughter light up a room.  I hope to raise funds for Desmoid research through The Desmoid Tumour Foundation of Canada (DFC).

Desmoid Tumours are extremely rare, affecting 2-4/million. They are locally aggressive and can cause life threatening problems or even death when they invade vital organs. The tendency for recurrence with surgery makes the treatment of these very rare tumours challenging.

Rare conditions like Desmoids are underfunded, often leading to misdiagnosis and discrepancies in treatment. Athina’s Ride is a new Virtual Cycling Event that will bring riders together everywhere to help raise money for this important research.

Please help me reach my fundraising goal to participate in finding a cure for Desmoid Tumours.

The DFC is the only not-for-profit in Canada dedicated to finding new treatments and hopefully a cure for desmoid tumours.

To donate securely, visit my fundraising page! While you’re there, be sure to check out my progress leading up to the big ride in July and consider joining Athina’s Ride with me! 30 kms with Athina on July 13th in Penticton, and 153kms on July 14th in the Gran Fondo.

Huge shout out to Rayna who donated to my efforts through Athina’s ride for Desmond’s Tumour Research with the ultimate goal of finding a cure. Many rides to squeeze in before Athina’s ride on July 13th (30kms) land then the Gran Fondo (153km) in Penticton July 14th. Rode in the rain Wednesday with ‘the girls’ and had a haaard hills suffer-fest the day before. Working to find time in the coming weeks for some looong days in the saddle. Looking for friends to join me in my spinning efforts: can’t ride Kelowna? Focus those kms towards Desmond’s Tumour Research from wherever you are. When I’m struggling up the hill or not wanting to get out there, I think about those who live a very different struggle. Together we can do hard things.  Join me and please donate whatever you can. Just Back from Europe

Thursday 18th Apr
After completing the 7 day hut to hut Chamonix to Zermatt ski tour, I am thrilled to be back home with riding trails reading for my mountain bike. It's always an exciting time of year when the street sweepers clear the roads signaling the start to road riding season as well. I trained for Ironman many years ago (before kids), and haven't been riding long distances like the Fondo will be, so it's time to saddle up and get some long kms on the pedals. What a great opportunity to keep in shape, have a 153km goal to work toward, and help Desmoid Tumour research with the ultimate goal being a cure. Talk about motivation! Let the training begin.
